Georgia has added a serious bat to its 2027 lineup. Former Indiana infielder Jake Hanley — who entered the transfer portal last week carrying a “Do Not Contact” tag — has committed to the Bulldogs, per his Instagram bio.
It’s a major get, and it was the first of two commitments Georgia reeled in on the same day; the Bulldogs also landed Oregon slugger Naulivou Lauaki Jr. just a few hours later.
The reason for the excitement is the production. Hanley was a monster at the plate for the Hoosiers in 2026, hitting .338 with 14 home runs. Across that season he piled up 71 hits, 56 runs, 14 doubles and 48 RBIs — numbers that earned him a spot on the Big Ten All-Second Team. Over his two-year career he’s made 110 starts, 54 of them at first base.
The rankings back up the addition. ESPN slots Hanley as the No. 46 player in the transfer portal, while 64Analytics rates him as high as No. 2.
Georgia needed exactly this kind of infusion. The Bulldogs are losing a ton of firepower off last season’s record-breaking team — SEC Player of the Year Dan Jackson is gone, and so are Brennan Hudson and Michael O’Shaughnessy, both of whom manned first base a year ago. Hanley, alongside Lauaki, is a strong start toward replacing that lost production.
