The college basketball offseason is humming along, with programs everywhere trying to hang onto their own talent while patching holes through high school recruiting and the transfer portal. When so many teams are chasing the same players, landing a commitment is easier said than done.
Georgia just landed another one. The Bulldogs have picked up transfer forward James Scott ahead of the 2026-27 season — his fourth team in four years.
Scott brings real mileage. He’s appeared in more than 60 college games across stops at Charleston, Louisville and most recently Ole Miss. His 2025-26 season with the Rebels wasn’t as productive as his Louisville year, but Georgia gives him a clear shot at a bigger role.
There’s a familiarity angle here too, and it’s not a fun one to recall. Scott already knows Mike White and this Georgia roster well — he helped Ole Miss beat the Bulldogs twice last season. Now that experience lines up on Georgia’s side.
The Bulldogs are trying to take a step forward this year, and doing that means finding a few more reliable offensive contributors. That’s exactly where a veteran like Scott fits. If he and the rest of the roster can build on last season, Georgia has another chance at a March Madness berth — and, ideally, its first tournament win of this run after back-to-back first-round exits.
White and his staff aren’t done. Expect more additions as the offseason rolls on.
